Well, it is now 14 days since we stayed there and got charged and there is still no refund. She takes it and says the system will charge the credit card but refund it in 4-5 days and she will apply the giftcard. Fine, we get there and before beginning check-in I tell the rep I need to use the gift card to pay for the night. I called them and confirmed that I could use it to pay for the stay and the website also clearly states that "Gift Cards are best used when used to pay for your overnight stay". I made the reservation in November and also purchased a giftcard to pay for the stay as they were offering an extra 10% during Black Friday.
